Assembly and Install is one of the last independently owned and operated businesses in Texas that has stood up to industry bullies like IKEA and Task Rabbit, Home Advisor - AKA Angi - or Handy, another site that has been bought out by investors attempting to pimp out independent business owners and control an industry.
Often Imitated - Never Duplicated
in 2014,we started receiving calls and estimate request asking us to advertise with Home Advisor and we politely declined, advising the callers from Task Rabbit and Thumbtack also that we had no interest in handing our business and leads over to an investment group that deceives consumers, has no liability for work performed and wants us t start paying them like pimps.

It just didn't make sense and still doesn't today in 2025. Why would any business owner or service provider give up on their business and hand it over to a group of people that have little to no interest in taking ownership of their work?
The most reliable home and office furniture assembly and installation services in the United States - AssemblyandInstall.com
The switcharoo, often times investment groups such as (IAC) InterActiveCorp creates or purchases several small websites that appear to be owned by local business owners or service providers and then deceive consumers into thinking they're hiring a local business, only to have the job cancel or someone who has no idea what their doing shows up instead.
This is why the FTC stepped in and handed out a few citations in 2023 requiring Home Advisor INC to pay up to $7.2 million for using a wide range of deceptive and misleading tactics in selling home improvement project lead services to service providers, including small businesses operating in the "gig" economy. The final consent order received final approval from the FTC and consented to the order April 2023.
We became a vital part of the investigation by providing data to investigators and the FTC.
Why? Because the teams at these companies had continued a relentless pursuit of our business including content and images and since we wouldn't sign up or give our business and clientel away, these companies started copying our site and not in a mimicking way, but instead using the copy and paste feature and this allowed us to become one of the largest furniture assembly services ever. The thing they missed was that we built everything from scratch, no wordpress or other pre-built programs, we coded our own site and wrote passionetly about the service we provided.
We are now in 2025 and (IAC) is still deceiving consumers and attempting to dominate fair trades by operating deceptive sites that mimic and are intended to mislead consumers that think they're hiring a local service provider and not a gig worker without experience or liability insurance.
Before hiring a service provider at the click of a button, maybe make a call and speak with the provider and help ensure it's not just another lead generation service or just call the team at Assembly and Install, we're locally owned and operated.
Here is a list of known deceptive "lead generation" websites that are owned and operated by Home Advisor, Angi, Handy and InterActiveCorp (IAC) attempting to continue deceiving consumers in Texas.

A Message To (IAC) and Investors

Barry Diller

Your attempts to control an industry and hinder the freedom of enterprise for individuals (sole proprieties') and business owners in Texas and throughout the US is going to be challenged and we will use our website to advise homeowners and consumers of your intentions and deceptive practices.
Your use of bots and so called SEO professionals that intend to copy our site content or design could be dangerous and backfire on you and your investors just like it did in 2022-2023. We handed over all the sites that copy and pasted our content. I'll gladly do it again and this time, may even file my own class action and use something called the US Mail to contact consumers throughout Texas and advise them directly, so be careful and think about it. You cannot have my proprietary property or business and we will never contract for (AIC). We are prepared to defend our right to free enterprise.
The use of (Ai) to attempt to copy our website, content or design will only bring consumers to us and we will use that traffic to help create awareness and help prevent consumers from falling victim to your predatory practices.
We are ready for a fight, and prepared to publicize our experiences and testify under oath to our claims in a court of law, the question remains though..are you?
We assemble and install IKEA furniture for consumers that choose to hire us and they have the right to do so. Our company has been in business for 25 years and will continue to do so. Assembly and Install does not affiliate with IAC or it's affiliates and AssemblyandInstall.com is an independently owned and operated company that provides home and office assembly and installation services 365 days a year.
IKEA Furniture is designed to be assembled by anyone and anyone can choose to hire us instead of any of your many services or misleading websites. At Assembly and Install, we assemble it right the first time and include a complimentary annual quality check up of all the furniture we assemble.
In 2018 our website was penetrated by nefarious individuals during the acquisition of Task Rabbit and it caused us to rebuild the infrastructure that is Assembly and Install and implicated some new security measures that helped prevent further disruptions. At the same time, I received a letter from IKEA's lawyers telling me to stop offering to assemble and install IKEA furniture. This is the same lawyer that represents the Batman Franchise. We advised him of our right to operate a business and provide services and never heard from him or IKEA again.
Then in April of 2025, I was contacted directly from the same hacker group that hacked our website in 2018 on behalf of IKEA and they actually asked me how our business remains prominent in 2025. I explained to them, that it was because of them that we still prosper today. They copied our content, text and images and visited our site hundreds of times and even deployed bots to scrape our content and that told Google we were awesome! They gave us an SEO boost like non other because of their lack of creativity. News Flash! I was unaware at that time, they had taken one of my old phone numbers and were still stealing leads from our Google Maps listing and then portraying themselves as us and using our business name to do the same. We will update this article as the investigation progresses and any court proceedings that may follow. updated 08/10/2025
I tried to explain that there's an office in NYC and another in the Netherlands that had bookmarked our website on their computers, phones and tablets over 8 years prior and since they copied our content to create their own, they unknowingly helped make Assembly and Install and it's sister companies the best ever! Plus it was easy to set up a US mail campaign whilst they were focusing on devices and Craigslist we were reaching new clients locally and building long lasting relationships.
The things IAC, IKEA and it's unethical penetrators had not considered was that I would file a police report and contact the FBI before making this post. Oh and IAC and IKEA, (good luck locating those old devices long since discarded) used to learn about our company. I know the teams were disbanded after the acquisition except for one team. The one's who can't meet your request and couldn't figure out how ethically compete in a fair market.
These statements and claims are based on true events and situations we experienced first hand.

Why Does AIC Use So Many Fake Websites?

Maybe It's Because Consumers Just Don't Want Pay A Pimp?
For over twenty years sites like Angi and Home Advisor have attempted to have us contract for them, only if we agree to charge the consumers more and pay the pimp. We declined and still decline today in 2025.
The reason (AIC) AKA Home Advisor, Angi and Handy use so many fake websites, is to drive in unsuspecting consumers and dominate the service industry by using unethical tactics and methods that cheat us all. At Assembly and Install, we perform all of the assembly and installation services we quote and take ownership of our work by going above and beyond to help ensure home and office furniture is assembled according to manufactures specification and installed safely and correctly the first time, every time. You can always reach us directly 7 days a week from 8am to 8pm unlike the fake imposter sites used by companies such as (AIC) - Home Advisor, Angi and Handy. When consumers hire a so called "Gig Worker from a site like Task Rabbit or Angi, they have little to no recourse if something goes wrong. What could go wrong hiring a gig worker to assemble and install your furniture with little to no experience, liability insurance or integrity? Everything...
Another reason IAC uses so many deceptive sites in an attempt to deceive consumers who may have had a negative experience with Task Rabbit or IAC and it's affiliates and would like to choose another service a real locally owned service. Is because consumers are unhappy with unsatisfactory work, pricing or conflicts. It's the right of the people to choose and AIC knows this and intentionally misleads and uses deceptive practices to achieve their quota's.
If IAC or Task Rabbit - aka IKEA were to lose Craigslist, they would suffer catastrophic financial losses.

IAC and Task Rabbit Take Over Craigslist

Have you ever attempted to list your business or services on Craigslist, only to have it flagged for removal or someone else appears to post several ads after yours, all repeating the same content and claims? This is because (IAC) and Task Rabbit (owned by IKEA) use Craigslist to deceive consumers and they can afford to pay the $5 per posting several hundred times a day. The use of Craigslist to find a service provider is practically useless since they all lead directly back to a lead generation service and not an actual service provider. Smaller communities still use Craigslist to help find local service providers and are the one's that businesses like IAC target.
IAC Inc. (InterActiveCorp) is an American holding company that owns and operates a diverse portfolio of brands and businesses, primarily in the media and internet sectors. Founded in 1995 and headquartered in New York City, it is known for its strategy of acquiring and incubating promising digital companies, often spinning them off into separate publicly traded entities once they've reached a certain size and maturity.

Task Rabbit (IKEA) Class Action Lawsuit 2025

When a company such as IKEA purchases a lead generation / hire a gig worker website for $75 million,  one may have assumed IKEA had good intentions and was finally going to (Assemble The Furniture) in 2018. Sure, we can all wonder why they don't just assemble the furniture in store and just ship it to consumers completely assembled. It would have helped to create jobs and be beneficial for the economy, but IKEA didn't do that. instead they acquired Task Rabbit and used Craigslist to drive in leads and them sell them back to service providers or gig workers with little to no experience to assemble their furniture for a fee or fee(s).
IKEA was unaware of the tactics employed by TaskRabbit and their heavy use of Craigslist. In our opinion IKEA purchased a listing on Craigslist for $75 million dollars and an additional $5 a post.

Task Rabbit Lawsuits

Before you hire a tasker off the platform Task Rabbit, you may want to read about these lawsuits, claims and judgments rendered from lawsuits and filings against or for Task Rabbit.
It's important to note that TaskRabbit's user agreement, like many others in the gig economy, includes an arbitration clause. This means that users often waive their right to a jury trial or to participate in class-action lawsuits. Instead, disputes are typically resolved through individual arbitration, a private process that can limit public knowledge of the claim and its resolution.
IKEA Purchased Task Rabbit and we admit IKEA has some wonderful designs and furniture, but the company itself is building more than furniture these days. They have also started taking advantage of their customers and here's a few lawsuits to prove it.
IKEA / Task Rabbit Lawsuits

The case was settled for $1.75 million, which was approved by the court

IKEA Death Lawsuits'
IKEA furniture is great when assembled and installed correctly, but does IKEA really care about your purchase or value human life?
Not without a lawsuit they don't. That's IKEA...
Ikea must pay $566,000 for “spoliation of evidence” after deleting the emails of at least four workers after the company had been ordered to preserve them, a federal judge ordered

How The Gig Econmy Hurts The Economy

Most contractors have realized that the leads derived from sites like Task Rabbit and Handy, use Craigslist to help drive leads in and most of these leads contractors could get on their own, if Task Rabbit and Handy would let local consumers advertise their services on Craigslist and other sites.
Gig workers are usually just individuals trying to make a few extra dollars and usually have the best of intentions, unfortunately the best of intentions does not equate to experience, proper tools and liability insurance. In fact most people that hire Gig workers will agree to some clause that may prevent them from requesting a refund or file a claim for damages or injuries. IKEA has had it's share of lawsuits over the years and there has actually been serious injury and death as a result of assembling themselves.
